Break the labels – OOTD

“Labels are for cans, not people” – Anthony Rapp

After these wonderful words, let me present to you a poem written exclusively by yours truly, Monika –

I like summer. But I also like fall.

I like makeup. But I also like no-makeup.

I like colors. But I also like neutrals.

I like traveling. But I also like coming home.

I like dressing up. But I also like not dressing up.

I like being social. But I also like being unsocial.

I like being nice. But I also like being mean.

You– Is that a kindergarten poem?
Me– Nooooo.
You–  I am sorry but it sounds childish.
Me– *smash smash* *bones breaking* *smash smash* *no more bones to break*

Anywhoo 🙈, today I want to talk about how we are afraid to fully and wholeheartedly embrace ourselves and feel the need to put labels to our personality. Just think about it for a min.. All of us have so many shades but sadly use only the black and white filter to define ourselves.(instagram filters, where art thou?)  How? Let’s think of some of the labels we give.

Chic ~ Boho. Classy ~ Wild. Feminine ~ Tom boy. Creative ~ Unimaginative. Nice ~ Outspoken.

How again? Let’s think of some of the thoughts we have –

How can I call myself creative if I still want to work in the corporate world? Am I not supposed to be living a free life?

How can I call myself a tom boy if I love to dress up and put on makeup? Am I not supposed to hate everything girly?

How can I call myself classy if I love buying junk jewlery from every corner? Am I not supposed to hate everything that is not high-end?

Makes a little more sense? Good.

Most of us put chains to our thoughts and personalities to fit into the boxes defined by us. We can be anything and everything we desire, but feel obliged to put labels. It’s great if you want to but it’s absolutely okay even if you don’t want or feel the need to.. Rather than being in a constant fight with your inner self, embrace everything that you stand for wholeheartedly. You ask how? Well, be the weirdo who  is the jack of all trades, be the weirdo who wants to be and does everything, be the weirdo whose life is a rainbow, be the weirdo who hates being defined or given a label.. basically be any kind of weirdo you want to be!

Now let’s talk about how insanely creative I am. * Look it’s my blog so I am allowed to be a narcissist.* Why do I say I am supremely talented? Because the outfit for this post is a reflection of what I am trying to say.. that you don’t have to conform yourself to be a certain way.. I wanted to combine my Indian roots with my love for western clothes and create a look that showcases how all of us are so much more than what meets the eye. Pretty cool right? Well, I told you I am all wise and stuff. 🙈
