Gratitude

What are your goals for 2018? What’s your next travel destination? When do you plan to buy a house? How are you progressing in your job? What do you want to achieve in 5 years? How many followers do you have on social media?…  And the questions never end and neither do the needs/wants. They just get bigger and grander!

GRANDIOSE.. That’s the word for millennials. Awesome and terrifying at the same time. We all know the awesome side of it – living the dream, getting sh*t done, being your own boss and so on. #YOLO

For today’s post, I wanted to focus on the terrifying part. The side of the #hustlerlife😬 that feels like a battle ground. Slay it, kill it, earn that crown, be a queen.. Just some of terms used for motivating the dreamer in you. But but doesn’t it sound more like we are all heading into a Game of Thrones inspired battle zone and the only way to emerge victorious is by being bruised and battered? Ok if it’s anything like GoT, you may never come out alive. 🤷‍♀️ #justsaying

Accomplishing big goals is the “in” thing.

Travel ain’t travel unless you have gone to the remotest corner of the world, lived like a local and posted the most incredible please-teach-me-how-to-hang-from-the-cliff photographs!

Balance ain’t balance unless you have accomplished 10456 tasks at work and then come home to whip out the most incredible looking tasting meal!

Home ain’t home unless you have a 3 bed-2 bath place with interior decorations that scream boho-chic-classy-airy-rustic-individualistic-how-why-what!

Art ain’t art unless you are getting a hundred likes on social media and validation that you are doing enough!

Living ain’t living unless you are totally out there slaying the sh*tz out of everything!

There is always this nagging feeling of something better and bigger waiting at the next corner. It has become extremely difficult to be satisfied no matter what you achieve and with social media, this feeling has aggravated a 1000x times. More money, more traveling, more clothes, more accolades, more accomplishments and the list goes on.

In this craziness of wanting to achieve the world, we tend to forget what we already have. I know I know it’s cliched and what not. But sadly it’s also true!

2017 was incredible and stressful; personally, professionally and worldly.

2018 is going to be incredible and stressful too. That’s life. BUT something I intentionally want to work towards is being more grateful aka Gratitude.

Gratitude is the magic elixir that has the power to change lives. I truly believe that. I know it’s extremely difficult to be grateful when your peers appear to lead a successful and jet-setting life… But changing your mindset to focus on your incredible life and things you think are mundane can transform everything.

I have been toying with this idea for a long time and have finally decided to start a gratitude series on my blog. I plan to share 7 things every Monday from the previous week I am grateful for (one for each day). Nothing better to kick-start the week right!

But why?

To celebrate the small victories and remind myself to not lose sight of what’s important. We tend to live each day in a auto-pilot mode. I want to slow down and savor what I already have.

To not wait for the million goals to materialize to realize how lucky I am.I want to focus on the little things as much as the big moments. *Inhaling a good pizza is definitely going to be part this list!*

Too much grandeur is showcased in today’s world of social media. By sharing the small moments, I hope to connect with you all more and hopefully do my bit to show that not all of us are living/need the “luxury” life to be content and happy.

Oh my, is this a long post or what! You made it till here? Awww you do like me. *all teary eyed now*.

Just hang on with me for a few more minutes as I quickly dish out 3  (7 from next week!) things I am grateful for from last week..

1. The most incredible sunsets California so freely and selflessly showers upon us. This shot was taken in Big Sur and oh my heart, was the sight stunning or what!

2. The lovely fall colors that still peep here and there. We stumbled upon some gorgeous fall trees during a hike and my heart exploded with happiness. FYI fall is my favorite season and seeing these colors in winter was nothing short of a Christmas miracle! *being dramatic? who me! 🤔*

3. I am thankful to be able to buy tools for my personal development. Extremely excited to use the Five Minute Journal that focuses on cultivating the habit of gratitude. It’s quick, asks the right questions and helps you develop a positive mindset. I have just started using it and will definitely share my review in a couple of months.

ps – You don’t need to spend dollah bills to start your journey. Just grab a notebook and list down all things you are grateful for!

Oh and happy happy happy new year guys! I hope this year you laugh a little more and love a lot more. Do you have any intentions for this year? I would love to hear and learn.. ☺️

Thank you so much for stopping by.. I am the most grateful for you all. Thank you for the love. See you all soon! – Love, M ❤️

  1. You hit the nail on the head about the spotlight on overachieving all the time! It’s like most of us have forgotten to loosen the collar a bit and just chill. What are we, superheroes? 😛 I am trying to remind myself that not everything in life is as perfect as captured on Instagram. Like, where is all the awkward shizz that people go through? 😛 Also, thanks for keeping it super real; we all need more of that!
I love the idea of maintaining a gratitude journal. It reminds us that there is so many things to be thankful for in life, such as small joys daily. Thanks for penning down a thoughtful post. 😀

  2. Wow! That is an amazing post. Indeed, we are running for the best holiday pics, instagram-worthy food, fashionable clothes that we forget to be grateful for what we have. On a personal level, I saw myself achieve a lot of goals, but did not stop and be thankful for achieving it. Instead, I just shrugged and moved to the next one. Now I know what exactly I need to work in 2018 !
