Hello September.. I am so happy to see you. Cooler weather, fall season, almost Christmas.. What’s not to love?
Now onto something that has been occupying alot of space in my overactive brain.. So we hear and use the term #girlboss and #bosslady all the time; especially to describe women who are entrepreneurs, mostly successful or someone who knows her worth, is ambitious, works hard to make her dreams come true, doesn’t settles for less and so on. And that’s super awesome! I am all about women reaching for the moon and stars.. But the more I think about it the more I feel that the definition of who we call a girl boss or boss lady is very limiting.
Why do I say this? Ok, so tell me the image that comes to your mind when I say the word girl boss? Isn’t it usually of a woman who is totally slaying in business or maybe a woman stumbling through life but working hard to create a successful business? This is all super cool but don’t we also know tonnes and tonnes of women who work as hard as any of us; in some cases even more; not only for their dreams but to make the life of people around them better without being celebrated or applauded just because they aren’t conventional girl boss material? How many times have you heard people calling women who sell flowers or vegetables on the roadside or clean your home a boss lady? What about thousands of women who work in factories stitching clothes for all the big brands? What about all the women who are at the ground level helping a woman entrepreneur achieve her dreams? Aren’t all of them #girlbosses and #bossladies in their own ways? Every woman who works hard to support herself and her family even if she doesn’t harbor dreams or have resources to be something bigger is a girl boss!
To me, my mother and mother-in-law are the epitome of boss ladies. They are housewives (who also ran small businesses in their heyday) and generally speaking, don’t have a conventional 9-5 job but rather a 24*7 when-my-fam-wakes-up-to-when-they-go-to-sleep job. I see so many housewives not being proud of their contributions and so many people around not giving them respect they deserve. Being a homemaker is one of the toughest jobs and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to wake up.. and do all the work themselves to understand! 🤷♀️ Earning money isn’t the only indication of a girl boss. In my eyes, all the homemakers are rockstars!
I guess my whole point is that we can’t celebrate one section of women just because their hard work/success is more notable and visible in the conventional sense and ignore the rest. Firstly, it’s unfair. You never know what someone’s situation is (social, economic, political) that in turn affects their so called achievements. And secondly, how can we empower women if we are unknowingly creating this divide? Let us make space for every woman to flourish in her own ways. Always remember that you all are powerful and strong.. And you all are girl bosses!! 😎

About the Outfit
Apart from the usual reason of wanting to dress slightly different to compliment the theme of the blog, I also wanted to go ethnic to celebrate the season of Indian festivities. When I was a younger *not that I am any older than 18 years.. you know..🙄 * I hated wearing Indian clothes. I thought they were uncool and meant for aunties.. I know I know I know totally totally stupid of me! I don’t even deny it. 🤦🏽♀️ It took me an entire move across the globe to realize how amazing Indian clothes are.
ps- I wore this outfit for my mehendi ceremony as well.. 😊
In other news, we went to Lake Tahoe for the long weekend and had such a great time. The travel guide recapping our trip will be up on the blog next week. No rolling eyes sweet people. It definitely will be up next week. 🙄 Btw what did you guys do for the long weekend?

Love the post and your thoughts. So true how unknowingly we limit social constructs and create inequality just like that.
I think more than anyone else, it is so important to know how we feel about ourselves. Like you said, there are so many women who do not give themselves enough credit for what they are doing. recognizing our capabilities and identifying our limitations only help us feel more confident about ourselves. I personally think that being a girl boss has more to do with how we see ourselves rather than how others perceive us. Accepting who we are, and then being able to make our own choices is what makes someone their own boss. love your dress, such a chic Indian look, also colors suit you so well. Hugs and kisses.
