Travel guide to Mendocino, CA – Day 2

Welcome back to Day 2 of our trip to Mendocino.. which btw happened centuries ago. I have since started walking with the help of a walker and my dentures are on it’s way! jk but only about the walker part. 🤓

ps – I don’t take dreamy travel photos. I take photos that are super obvious and touristy. In the course of this blog, you will see exactly what I mean.

*Just writing “welcome back to another post” ain’t enough.. I had to take a super cheesy pic to convey the same information. It is what it is guys..*

So where did we leave off last (to refresh your memory, click here)? Oh yes.. after sleeping in a super uncomfortable bed, we got up bright and early.. after snoozing off only maybe a thousand times.. No big deal. Next stop – FOOD, Always Food.!

PLACES TO EAT PART 1
Eggheads

Eggheads is one of the must-go places if you are ever in Mendocino. The food was so so good!! It’s a small Wizard of Oz themed breakfast and brunch place. I had a waffle which was fantastic but ofcourse I liked what Mr. M was having. Story of my life! 👫

Travel tip- Order the Veggie Garlic lover from their menu. It’s mouthwatering.

*standing right below the sign ain’t enough! I had to point also.. incase you missed the bigger-than-my-head sign..*

PLACES TO VISIT
Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens

I have next to zero knowledge of flowers, plants and trees but that doesn’t stop me from totally gushing and buying them all the time. This place was gorgeous and filled with so many pretty flowers and trees. Don’t ask me the names. Cmn what’s Google for!? 🤷‍♀️ You can easily spend a couple of hours here. Ok maybe not so many hours if you are not a lunatic like me trying to take pictures at every corner. *guilty, ashamed and still doing it*

Coastal Trail

The botanical garden also gives access to a beautiful trail that takes you to the coast. It’s a super short hike (maybe 10-15 min) and definitely worth doing. Don’t be put off by signs that say strenuous trail bcoz it ain’t strenuous at all, unless maybe you are like totally against walking. 🤔

*Why? In my mind my hair looked like pic 1 but in reality it was more like pic 2. 🙄*

Oh well sometimes I do take creative shots..

In other news, Mr. M finally agreed to take a pic with me. I literally have to fight with him to get a decent picture.

Fun Fact 1 – He is cursed blessed with eyes-always-closed syndrome every time a pic is taken!  I am 99.9999% sure his eyes are closed behind the glasses. 😆

Not-so Fun Fact 2– I can see my future already. My mom is commanding me to take down the blog again. Why? She loves Mr. M more than me and anything against him is never acceptable. I know what you are thinking. Poor Monika! I feel the same. 🙋🏽

Point Cabrillo Lighthouse

Lighthouses have a special place in my heart. I am going to get all dramatic but to me they are a symbol of romance, calmness, contemplation, melancholy and nostalgia. *spends hours searching for the right adjectives and finally can show off how intellectual she is! 🤦🏽‍♀️*.  Point Cabrillo was no different.  Mendocino’s dramatic coastline makes it even more gorgeous!

The parking lot is almost a mile away from the lighthouse. Take either the paved road or a small trail (definitely recommend this) with stunning ocean views to reach the lighthouse. There is a teeny tiny aquarium, a gift shop, stunning views, a number of cottages that you can actually rent, a model home that you can tour showcasing how it may have looked when the keeper’s family lived here. I have also heard that it’s a great viewing point for whale watching..

Travel Tip – Wear comfortable shoes as you have to walk almost a mile to reach the lighthouse. Maybe rent out the cottages for your stay. Imagine waking up and walking 2 min to witness an epic sunrise over the pacific ocean. 🌅

Exploring the Mendocino town

The town of Mendocino is small, charming, quaint and dotted with cute cafe’s, boutiques and art galleries. . You can literally walk from one end to the other in 10 minutes.  A perfect place to relax and unwind..

Travel tip – Visit the Mendocino chocolate company for some delicious and gorgeous looking chocolates. We finished the box before I could take a pic. Food takes priority. Always. 🕺🏻

PLACES TO EAT PART 2
Frankie’s

The Ice-creams here are so good! We also ordered a pizza and it tasted delicious.. The most fun part of this place is a wall that basically has some of the most hilarious questions people have asked them. Example?

How big is the 10″ pizza?

Are there any nuts in the mocha almond fudge?

Can you point to where Frankies is?

I am sure what you are thinking. Do people really ask these questions? And you know what, this is also a question on the wall. 🤣

  1. I live in LA and you guys definitely look like you had such a blast in Mendocino. The best part was your beach shots well and the ice cream too! Basically it was a tie between the two for me. Love your photos =]
