Romping around breaking fashion rules – OOTD

For the longest time, I did not wear certain clothing styles because a) I tried to follow all “magic rules” that dictate what you should or shouldn’t wear b) I did not have the courage to follow my own rules.*Read the next few sentences dramatically turning your head left-right 👈🏽👉🏽 and if you add some pained expressions, you get bonus points. If you shed a tear, we are going to be best friends* Yes yes yes, I accept I did not have a mind of my own! I lacked self-love! I was weak! I cared too much about what others thought! 😐 Ok now since we have established that Monika from the past was a scared little mouse , let’s move forward.. *oh you can stop turning your head now!*

Some of the magic rules of fashion tell us to avoid horizontal stripes if you are too wide, avoid skinny jeans if you have thunder thighs, avoid skinny jeans if you have chicken legs, avoid black if you are too thin and the list goes on. But you know what? Somedays I want to wear that teeny-tiny pair of shorts even though I got thunder thighs and no thigh gap! I may look horrendous according to everyone around me or maybe I actually DO look horrendous but that’s okay! In my mind, I feel sexy, stunning, liberated and that is good enough reason to wear something. Isn’t it logical to wear a piece of clothing if it makes you feel good irrespective of whether it aligns with the big, bad, breathtaking world of fashion or not? So all my gorgeous chicas, if you have been wanting to try a piece of clothing and like the way it feels on you, go ahead and have a blast 🙂

FYI it is helpful to have fashion guidelines and to follow them BUT only if/when you want to. The problem happens when we allow these rules to run our lives and we start dressing up for the world rather than ourselves. Fashion is such an individual ritual and yes, we may need help now and then, but that shouldn’t stop any of us from exploring our sense of style!

Sometimes I question my self-appointed fashion blogger title considering the kind of advice I give. 😳 Being honest, I don’t want to tell you what to wear but rather inspire you to have the confidence to wear anything you like and carry it with your head held high. Ok so now we all can agree that Monike in the present is pretty cool who has bright chances of getting recognized for her selfless devotion to the women community and her inspiring acts! 😎 *Don’t question. Just nod that pretty head*

I have always wanted to wear a romper and ofcourse I didn’t for a very long time. I went to Target this past week, tried a bunch of them, hated myself in the dressing room more than a couple of times, got this one, kinda liked it, decided to buy it and tried to style it in a way I’ll be most comfortable in. Voila! This post came to life.

Until I get recognized and earn some good money, I have decided to pursue a career in the traffic department. The job is pretty much mine considering how my shoes glow in the dark making it easier for vehicles to see me from far far far..

I hope each one of you find the courage to wear what YOU want. After all, the no. 1 rule of fashion is always wear what you want to wear.  Remember, you are beautiful and deserving of all the amazing things in life irrespective of the clothes you wear. – Love, M ❤️

  1. first of all you look amazing in this romper! Major fashion goals right here. I want to thank you for choosing this subject and commenting on it. All of us feel conscious about exploring clothing choices because of our body types. But, I guess I am finally going to try those backless dresses I have always wanted after all these years..:)Thank you!

  2. You go girl! Do what your heart desires.
You look amazing when you feel amazing. Love your romper and your gorgeous hair.
And I don’t know about the traffic job, as you will be more of a distraction than help (in a good way 😉 )
    Have a nice week!

  3. Girl you look amazing in that romper! I love the cardigan you paired it with as well, such a great color on you. I’m glad you are saying no to the “rules” of fashion because it’s all in how you feel in something!

  4. You look beautiful! There is a confident glow around you and when you feel beautiful I think you look beautiful 🙂 I’m glad you got over your fear of wearing what you want!

  5. Love this post! I used to do the same thing. Always trying to fit in and follow rules. Never letting my true style shine. Once I turned 25, I have been free from all that. I wear what I want and I’ll continue doing so haha! Long hair, don’t care. You totally rock this romper and look amazing! I admire your confidence and beauty. 🙂

    1. I exactly know what you are saying! After a certain point, it just gets extremely tiring to try please others and being frank, it’s just not doable. After all haters gonna hate hate 😉 I am so glad you are doing /dressing the way you want! Yay to that.. Thank you so much for your sweet comment and hope you are having a great week! 🙂

  6. I think fashion rules are really important and so helpful in figuring out how to dress in a way that is attractive and flattering. However, with that said, I had a journalism professor who always said you learn the rules to know how to break the rules. And I think that applies to fashion. It’s good to know the rules and dress accordingly and then sometimes it’s good to break the rules in a knowledgeable way. – Katy

    1. Yes, I agree that rules are a great way to figure out ways of dressing great but I guess sometimes it’s okay to go beyond those rules if you like something. In the end, it’s about how you feel in a clothing piece and not just whether the rule book approves or not. hahah I like your professor and it’s great to know you agree with breaking rules when needed 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you are having a great week!

  7. Please-oh-please do not become a traffic cop, you are not going to help anyone (if you know what I mean ;)). Another great post babe, we live life only when we stop caring about what others say/do/expect of us. So glad you overcame your inhibitions and embrace the beautiful you (I have had my share of struggles too, but we learn to fight them and become better everyday).

  8. I love your outfit that you put together… simplicity but still chic. I am a plus sized gal and living in Hawaii… a more relaxed lifestyle calls for a relaxed look and often times I don’t do the norm or trend 😉

    1. Thank you so much Honey 🙂 I am so glad you wear what you want and no follow trends blindlessly! aahhh hawaii is one place I want to visit so bad. Hopefully soon 🙂 Have a great week!

    1. You are the best Veena! I love how positive you are and always share so much love with everyone 🙂 And yes to living for ourselves and doing what our heart desires! Thank you all the kind comments you leave. Hope you are having a great week. <3

  9. Monika, you are so gorgeous. Love your smile and loved what you are wearing. You know what, even I was like that ‘past Monika’! Shying away, insecurities were a part of me. It’s not about being thin, healthy, tall or short! It’s about accepting the way you are and being happy with oneself! I am so happy to you brought this topic, girls need to be reminded to accept and love oneself. Tight hug 🙂

    1. Thank you so so much Nischita for this wonderful comment 🙂 It’s kind of heartbreaking to know all of us have struggled with our deamons. Hopefully things will change in future and women/girls will not have so much pressure about body issues! That being said, kudos to you for moving forward with so much style and strength 🙂 Have a wonderful almost weekend!

  10. Love this! I’ve been so afraid to wear stripes because that has always been the rule, but they are making such a big comeback this year that it’s been hard not to buy them! Way to just wear what you want to wear!

  11. Oh my god! I have fallen in love with your blog! Your post is so funny and yet inspirational at the same time! Yes, women should wear what they feel like they want to wear and not to be judged by the society. Beauty and fashion isn’t something rigid, it is art. So if a girl wants to wear something that doesn’t follow fashion rules, she should totally wear it! Fashion is about wildly expressing yourself! <3

  14. I love this post, you’re spreading a great message! I consider fashion a form of self-expression and an opportunity to invent yourself again every single day – and that is exactly why I believe we should wear whatever we want, as long as it makes us feel good. BTW, I love your outfit, you look fab! xx

    1. I agree with you 100% Mira. Fashion is a form of art and we never tell artists what to create 🙂 Thank you so much for your sweet sweet comment! Hope you are having the best week 🙂

  15. Girl, you are totally rocking these shorts. Seriously, these rules are so not applicable in your case. I think it’s all about how confident and beautiful you feel on the inside.
As for me, I always thought I can’t wear tight-fitting tops, because my bust is so small. Well, a few months ago I decided to go against everything, wear what I want and be happy about it. That was so cool.
Thank you so much for sharing, beautiful!

    1. Thank you so so much Yulia for such a wonderful and thoughtful comment 🙂 I am so glad you broke your own rules and wore what you wanted to.. These are small things but just being able to decide for yourself is so liberating 🙂 Hope you are having a great week gorgeous!

  16. LOVVEEE it, my girl. Love that you’re pushing your own boundaries. I’m like that too – more in life, than in fashion. Set silly boundaries and limits for myself which I realize I don’t need anymore. Pushing them and liberating ourselves from it is THE BEST feeling ever. I’m glad you’re doing the same with fashion too 🙂 Lots of love and happy to see your happy face in these happy pictures!

    1. Thank you so much Tivoli!! It makes me so happy to see women breaking boundaries and doing what they love and have passion for.. So glad you are doing that everyday in life :* Have a great week love!

  17. Omg girl, I’ve spent the past half-an-hour reading all your archived posts and Friday evening never felt better! So wanted to let you know that you have gained a trusted stalker (if that even makes sense :D) Keep inspiring <3
