Monthly Favorites – March

Current time / day – 10:00 pm /Sunday

Monthly favorites posts have made my life so much easier. *grins, stretches, relaxes on the sofa*. Why?  Hmmm well you see I am a full time procrastinator. 😴 Unlike my other posts, I don’t have to worry about taking pictures on time, editing, obsessing or turning into a narcissist and admiring how pretty I look or the very next minute hating my nose for being way too long/big for my face (legit concerns). I can totally wait until the last moment to get started! *grin turns into evil laughter, stretching turns into a yawn, relaxation turns into slowly dozing off*

Don’t look at me with those judging eyes; 👀 I know y’all procrastinate too! Do I hear a no? Alright, let’s go back to your school/university days. Remember the time when you had to submit a paper or write an exam and you waited until the last moment to get started ? Do I hear a grumbling yes? 👂🏼 Good and on this note, I present to you my first favorite of the month –

Ted Talk – Let’s laugh and learn

I hope you laugh as much as I did and learn what I am still trying to 🙂

Beauty item – Let’s look pretty

I am sure the entire internet knows by now that I have dark circles. So I think it’s fair for all of you to learn about my magic marker that helps cover them in the most natural way. On an everyday basis, I use YSL Touche Eclat – a godsent highlighter/illuminator that instantly brightens the area around the eyes giving it a very natural finish. This pen has been a staple for a very long time and can be used under the eyes, cheeks, nose, cupid’s bow etc. It is a little on the pricier side but lasts for a good 3 months or so. Please note this highlighter provides very light coverage (use a concealer if you want full coverage)

Book – Let’s live without fear

Do you want to hear a fun fact? This book is one of the many reasons I started blogging. If you want to achieve greatness like me, go ahead and grab a copy! (note to you – please never take my self-gloating jokes seriously | note to self – stop making these jokes 😑) Let’s get serious now – I heard the audio version of this book narrated by Elizabeth Gilbert back in November and again in March. Her voice has a magical quality and touches your soul. In a nutshell, this book inspires and encourages each one of us to explore our creative sides and passions without worrying about the outcome. Some quotes from the book –

“If you’re alive, you’re a creative person”

“Too many women still believe that they are not allowed to put themselves forward in the world at all, until both they and their work is perfect and beyond criticism”

“What is creative living? Any life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than by fear”

“Your own reasons to make art are reason enough. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart”

“Done is better than good”

“Forgive yourself if you created something and it didn’t work out”

ps – I definitely recommend the audio version. Check out Audible – the first month is free:)

App – Let’s be productive

I am trying to kick my procrastination habit  (a woman’s gotta try!) and have started using the Pomodora technique – working for 25 minutes straight and then taking a 5 minute break. Read more about it here. I have noticed that my concentration has improved and I enjoy my tasks better. I use the Pomodoro Time app available in the app store on my iphone. There are alot of similar apps; go ahead, pick the one you like and give it a try.

Frozen treat – Let’s make our tummy happy

Want something that is sweet, sour and spicy at the same time? Try mangonada , a Mexican delight! Now repeat out loud what you jus read in the tone of peeps you see in infomercials. 💁🏻

I tried mangonada for the first time last week and my reaction was – “oh my god!! My life has been a total waste till now!”. It has fresh mango pieces, mango ice-cream, chamoy sauce, lime juice, chili powder and is decorated with a tamarind straw ! Search on yelp for places that carry this treat and I am sure you will find tonnes. Sorry no picture of mangonada but but my happiness while inhaling eating was equivalent to what you see here –

  8. Haha love your round up babe, such a fun post! I love Ted talks but don’t watch them as much as I want to, ugh! Never heard of Mangonada, should try to find some here. Adore that video at the bottom, totally brought a smile. Happy rest of the week, Monica 🙂

    1. haha thank you so much Kusum! I am so glad you had fun reading.. I am on the same boat – never have enough time to watch ted talks as much as I want to.. You gotta try mangonada and if you love khatta-meetha combo – you’ll totally love it 😀 Hope you are having a good babe <3

  9. I’ve been looking for a good Ted Talk for so long. I definitely need to check this out. And Big Magic is next on my list! I’ve heard so many great things about. And I think I might get the audible version now, I’ve never tried it before. You’ve had some great favorites!

    1. This talk is hilarious and so on point! Oh Big Magic is truly truly magical.. You have to read it babe! Never thought I would like audio versions of books but I am slowly getting converted.. You can listen to a book while cooking (that’s what I do :D) or cleaning the room.. Makes life so much easier! Thank you so much for the love 🙂 Hope you are having a great week, Autumn!

  10. Such a great read, Monkia, you certainly made me laugh, as you always do! You have an incredibly unique voice as a writer, I love it and I’m sure many others do, too! I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz surrounding this book and how amazing it is, it really must be because I haven’t encountered a negative review or mention; I love the quotes you’ve shared, especially, “done is better than good.” I need to try an app like that because honestly, I’m a real type A and so I don’t give myself many breaks in between working as I should. In fact, there was a time I’d work 8hrs straight with eating, which is of course really bad and I had to change that. Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far; I can’t believe it’s Thursday already, where is time going?!

    1. You are so amazingly kind, Jalisa! You made my day and brought the biggest smile :* Thank you for always being so supportive! That quote is my absolute fav too. We can get so hell bent on producing the best content that we tend to forget the big picture. Do grab a copy if you get a chance and I am sure you won’t be disappointed 🙂 Oh no! You definitely need this app as much as I do 😀 Hope you are having the best Monday gorgeous <3

  11. This last month, I was obsessed with The Great Food Truck Race on Netflix. I love cooking shows and I love food trucks and I watched 2 seasons in the span of four days!

    1. oh I love cooking shows too! It’s another story that I am always super hungry after watching them 😀 Sounds like a great show to me, gotta check it out 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and have a great week, Chelsie!

  14. I like your honesty in why you like the monthly favorites posts. It’s nice not to have to edit.

I think I really need to read Big Magic. I listened to the podcast and liked it, but I didn’t really care for the other book she wrote. But, I think this one deserves a chance.

    1. Our voices are the most difficult to handle! This book is very inspiring and makes you believe in your abilities a little more. Hope you had a great start to the week, Clare 🙂

  15. March has been quite eventful for me too. Made some new bloggers friends and My feature articles on women’s day special brought my magazine so much appreciation from different parts of the nation. Looking forward for many more.

  16. YSL Touche Eclat is one of those hard-to-beat makeup classics. They have some color corrector shades out right now which are amazing as well!
